What Is Raw Silk Noil?

Raw silk noil is a textured, nubby fabric made from shorter silk fibers as compared to long-strand fibers used to make smooth satin-like silks. Unlike smooth, lustrous silk, raw silk noil has a matte finish, a soft nubby texture, and a more casual, organic look. Raw silk noil is similar to linen and cotton, however it uses much less water to produce and improves the health of hair and skin.

How to Care for Raw Silk Clothing at Home

  • Machine Wash on Delicate: Use cold water and a mild detergent.

  • Tumble Dry on Low or Air Dry: Raw silk can be safely dried in a machine on a low heat setting, or tumble air-dried for best results.

  • Steam Iron If Necessary: Unlike linen, raw silk resists hard wrinkles and maintains its shape, reducing the need for ironing.  But, you can give it a quick press if necessary.

This easy-care routine makes raw silk ideal for everyday wear, offering luxury without the hassle

Eco-Friendly Benefits of Raw Silk

Requires Less Water to Produce

Silk production consumes significantly less water than organic cotton and linen. Cotton farming is one of the most water-intensive agricultural processes, requiring thousands of gallons to produce just one pound of fabric. Linen, while more sustainable than cotton, still requires extensive water use for growing and processing the stiffer raw material.
